Personality: Kai's pretty, smooth-talking exterior hides a fierce intelligence and even fiercer sense of familial loyalty beneath. He protects those he cares for at whatever the cost.
History: Growing up in South Central Los Angeles, Kai's childhood was not a happy one. His mother walked out on the family when he was just five, so he hardly remembers her. Kai was left with his father and sister Emma, who is two years younger. His father, Jack Emory, was abusive towards both his children, and Kai often sought escape in books and music. Then, Jack's abuse turned sexual when Emma, turned thirteen. They both stopped going to school around then, and Kai hoped someone would notice and call the authorities, but no one ever did. Kai often tried to protect Emma, but ended up unconscious more often than not for his efforts.
And then, when she was fourteen, Emma got pregnant and that was the last straw. While his fatehr was in the middle of attacking Emma yet again, Kai stabbed him to death. He tooks his father's beat up El Comino and dumped the body in the Mojave after removing his head and hands and tossing them in a dumpster. He then moved his sister and himself to San Bernadino. They lived in the car, Kai and Emma both working odd jobs until they had enough to get a room in a cheap motel. It was a dump, but it was someplace to live. They kept working to support themselves and between jobs, Kai often went to the library to read up on academic subjects as much as he could.
Emma was then too pregnant to work and, in order to stabalize their income in preparation for a baby, Kai got involved with some drug dealers. He started making almost a thousand a week dealing and being a package boy, but he knew it was risky and only a temporary situation. When Emma had her baby, Kai started making plans. He started reading up on colleges and scholarships and GED programs. But he didn't do anything until he was eighteen. By then, Emma was settled into motherhood and even had a steady job. She'd moved out of their motel room into a halfway house for abused women and single mothers in order to give her brother a chance at making a life.
Getting his GED, taking all the standardized tests and scoring high on them, Kai applied to several colleges and universities in Southern California, wanting to stay close to his sister. He got scholarships from most of them, but he decided on the small Ruize College in La Cinqa. He took up a major in Marine Biology and minored in Chemistry, keeping a low profile while making and selling ketamine and various steroids to rich, spoiled brats in LA on the weekends.
While attending Ruize, Kai developed a friendship with Travis Sumpter, a student a year behind him. For three years, the two fought their growing attraction for each other, until finally both gave into the tension between them. They started the more romantic aspect of their relationship just as a series of murders occurred on campus. During the investigation, Travis and Kai grew even closer. When it was all over and after Kai graduated, the two took the legal settlement Kai received after being assaulted by the investigating detective and moved into an apartment off campus while Travis finishes up his last year of college. Kai currently works as a pharmacist--the legal kind--and plans to move with Travis and his family to Washington state to attend graduate school in the field of Forensic Pharmacology.
